What was the reaction of Mother's spiritual director to her disclosing what happened to her in Darjeeling?

Ignore it. Fr Van Exem first tried to tell Mother Teresa not to think about what she had heard from Christ. He wanted to test her obedience. He wanted her to be silent and pray. She had many things to do in her current vocation. If this vision was really from God, Mother would be obedient.

What did Mother first do after her retreat?

She went to see her spiritual director. She believed that obedience was the true path to divine blessing. She wanted the protection of the Church.

She heard the voice of Christ as though He were speaking directly to her. He heard his voice as St Paul heard Him speak on the road to Emmaus. But this voice was of Christ on the Cross.

How did Mother's secret vow change her daily life?

She tried to do everything for Jesus out of love. Big or small, it did not matter. All things could be for Him, if done with love.

Did Mother Teresa's vow of refusing Christ nothing make her gloomy?

No! In fact, she was known to be full of fun and always cheerful. Her great good was Christ and his will. Doing his will gave her joy.

In what did this vow consist?

In refusing Christ nothing. To always do what Christ wanted required Mother to be very attentive, always listening. Such attentiveness to Christ required a great silence in her soul.

Why did Mother make this vow?

Out of love. The more she knew of Christ's unconditional love, the more she looked for ways to give love back. Love for love!

When did Mother make a private vow to give God anything he asked?

In April 1942. No one knew of this promise made to God (except her confessor). Underneath this vow, she was living the most intense life of intimacy with Christ. She did not want anyone to know about this vow that the Holy Spirit inspired her to make as the best means available to her in her particular situation of following Christ.

On Sundays even as a Loreto sister, what did Mother Teresa begin to do?

Visit the slums. In these visits, she had no material goods to give, but she discovered a great secret. She could give joy to others. She was able by her presence to bring the joy of Christ into the homes of the poor.

After nine years of missionary life, what did Mother Teresa most ask for from a priest friend? 

Prayers. As she approached her final vows as a Loreto sister, Mother Teresa wrote a long letter to a priest she knew back home. She opened up about her interior life and her struggles. Her great desire is to do what pleases Christ. But what she is most desirous of is prayers. She begs this priest several times to pray for her. Let us imitate her in asking others to pray for us!

Growing up in an Albanian family with a devout mother, Mother Teresa first thought about being a sister at the age of 12. This passed out of her mind for six years. At the age of 18, the call returned. She wanted to go to Bengal. She wanted to bring the light of Christ to those in the darkness of unbelief. She wanted all to know Him whom her heart so loved.
