Why did St Teresa of Calcutta want her documents destroyed? 

On September 10, 1946, at the age of 36, Mother Teresa experienced an interior call from Jesus. He spoke words in her heart that left a lasting impression. She heard Him invite her, demand from her, that she leave her teaching order, the Loretto Sisters and bring His light to the slums of Calcutta. This intimate experience was unknown to most people until fairly recently. The documents regarding this experience were in the possession of her spiritual guides. Mother wanted these documents destroyed once her work with the poor got started. She did not want attention on herself, but on Christ in the poor.

In preparation for Mother Teresa being beatified and canonized, that is, officially declared to be a model for the Christian life and a heavenly intercessor, previously unknown writings of Mother were discovered and examined. They detail 1) a private vow she made of always doing what was most perfect, 2) her mystical experience of Christ calling her to be His Light, and 3) her prolonged sense after the work with the poorest of the poor began of God not caring for her or wanting her.
